17 Marble Stations Along the Gentle Path of the Prairie
The Lourdes Lower Stations, also known as the Prairie Stations of the Cross, follow a level path along the banks of the Gave River — seventeen white marble-dust sculptures by the artist Maria de Faykod, set where every pilgrim, regardless of physical ability, can walk with Our Lord.
I didn’t walk this path myself. My last afternoon in Lourdes went entirely to the Espelugues, climbing in full sun with no shade to speak of, and by the time I came down there wasn’t a way to fit in the Prairie too. A fellow pilgrim on that same trip, Theresa, walked it in my place and generously shared her photographs so this gentler path wouldn’t be missing from here.
What follows below is that same level path, station by station — so you can walk it here even if the trip isn’t possible for you either.

Peace in the Meadow
The journey through the Prairie Stations is a gentle encounter with the Divine. Unlike the rugged climb of the Espelugues, these seventeen white marble-dust stations invite a quiet, accessible reflection along the banks of the Gave — a reminder that the Way of the Cross is open to everyone, offering a serene space where the spirit can find rest even amid the trials of the world.
I am grateful every time I look at these photographs, because they carry a path I couldn’t walk myself — a gift from one pilgrim to another, and now to you.
