The Way · Path 2 · Lourdes High Stations
The Lourdes High Stations of the Cross, known as the Espelugues, climb the rocky hillside above the Sanctuary in a set of 115 life-sized bronze figures — one of the most striking Stations of the Cross anywhere in the world.
I went up alone on my last afternoon in Lourdes, under a two o’clock sun with no shade to speak of. The heat wore on me, but the scale of it — bronze figures larger than life, one after another up the hillside — wouldn’t let me look away. I knew before I’d even reached the top that I wanted to bring this climb home to people who couldn’t make the trip themselves.
What follows below is that same climb, station by station — the same figures, the same path, so you can walk it here even from home.

The climb up the Espelugues is more than a walk; it is an encounter. Standing before those massive bronze figures under the afternoon sun, I felt the weight and the glory of the Passion in a way words can barely describe.
This virtual pilgrimage was born from that quiet, hot afternoon in Lourdes — a desire to bring the scale and emotion of these 115 statues to your home.
