Walk the Sacred Path in the Mountains of Spain
The Bishop of Santander, in whose diocese Garabandal is located, issued several statements over the years regarding the apparitions. In 1965, Bishop Eugenio Beitia noted that while the Church had not found evidence of supernatural origin, neither had they found anything "deserving of ecclesiastical censorship" in the doctrine or spiritual recommendations. The messages contain "exhortation to prayer and sacrifice, to Eucharistic devotion, to veneration of Our Lady... simply repeat the common doctrine of the Church." Despite this relatively neutral stance, later bishops issued stronger negative declarations.
Our Lady warned specifically about the dangers facing the Church and the world: "Many Cardinals, Bishops and priests are following the road to perdition, and with them they are taking many more souls." This prophetic message foresaw the crisis in the priesthood and the confusion that would trouble the Church in subsequent decades. The Virgin's concern focused particularly on those in authority who bear responsibility for leading souls—their failures multiply the damage done to the faithful. She called for urgent prayer for clergy.
The Miracle at Garabandal will be greater than the Miracle of the Sun at Fatima on October 13, 1917. It will occur on a Thursday evening, will last approximately fifteen minutes, and will be visible only from Garabandal and the surrounding mountains, though the Pope will see it from wherever he is. The date will coincide with the feast of a young Eucharistic martyr saint and with a significant event in the Church. Eight days before, Conchita will announce the date to the world, allowing people to travel to Garabandal to witness it.
