Walking the Stations, Step by Step
The Stations of the Cross can be prayed anywhere — in a parish church moving station to station, at a shrine like Lourdes or Fatima, or quietly at home with nothing more than an image and an open heart. Whatever the setting, the rhythm stays the same.
1. Begin
Open each station with the traditional versicle: “We adore You, O Christ, and we bless You…” It marks the moment as prayer, not just recollection.
2. Meditate
Sit with the scene itself — what Jesus is enduring, who is present, what it asks of you. This is the heart of each station, however brief or long you linger.
3. Close and Move On
Carry the station’s meaning with you as you move to the next. There’s no need to rush — the Stations were never meant to be hurried.
4. End Together
After the fourteenth station, close with the Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory Be, and the closing prayers below — gathering everything you’ve just walked through into one final offering.
