Confidence in Mary is not about asking for favors. It is about learning to trust your Mother — and discovering that when you do, prayer itself changes.
At some point in my faith journey I decided I wanted to get closer to Mary — to truly understand how she could intercede for me, and what it meant to trust her as a Mother. I spent time in consecration, using the Totus Tuus book as a guide for a thirty-day retreat — contemplating, meditating, and praying the Rosary with Mary at the center of everything.
What I found surprised me. When I pray the Rosary now, I am no longer just saying words verbally. My lips are still moving, but something goes deeper — the prayer shifts into another level entirely. I try to pray very slowly, as if I am speaking directly to Mary, my Mother. Not reciting. Talking. One Hail Mary at a time, as if she is actually listening — because she is.
I have come to understand that imitating Mary is a little easier than imitating Christ — not because the standard is lower, but because Mary is human. She shows us what a human soul fully surrendered to God looks like. She had the same limitations we have. She chose, moment by moment, to say yes. That yes is something we can learn from. Something we can practice.
This is what confidence in Mary means to me: not asking her to solve my problems, but trusting her enough to bring me closer to her Son. She has never let me down. Not once.
The Depth of Our Relationship With Mary
The relationship we cultivate with Mary, our Blessed Mother, is one of intimacy and trust. As the mother of Jesus, Mary holds a unique position in our faith — she is not only a figure of reverence but also a compassionate intercessor who understands our struggles and joys. When we turn to Mary in prayer, we are inviting her into the depths of our lives, seeking her guidance as we navigate the complexities of our earthly existence.

In my own life I have experienced moments where trusting in Mary has brought me peace. During times of personal crisis or decision-making, I have turned to her in prayer, asking for her guidance. I often find comfort in praying the Hail Mary, feeling her presence enveloping me with love and reassurance. This simple act of devotion reminds me that I am never alone — Mary walks beside me, guiding me toward her Son.
Mary's role as our intercessor helps us to aspire to eternal happiness — encouraging us to live in a way that aligns our hearts with God's will. Her Assumption is not just an event; it is a testament to the hope that awaits all believers. By reflecting on her life and her relationship with God, we are reminded that our earthly struggles are temporary, and that eternal joy is within our reach.

What I have found is that the more slowly I pray the Rosary — one Hail Mary at a time, as if I am genuinely talking to my Mother — the more it ceases to be recitation and becomes something else entirely. The words are still there. But underneath them, something moves. That is confidence in Mary working. That is what she does when we trust her enough to slow down.

One powerful way to engage with Mary's intercession is through novenas — nine days of prayer dedicated to a specific intention. Novenas allow the faithful to deepen their relationship with Mary and reflect on her virtues over time.
The origin of the 54-Day Rosary Novena dates back to 1884 in Naples, Italy. It began with a young girl named Fortuna Agrelli, who was suffering from a severe and incurable illness. Her family prayed fervently to the Blessed Virgin Mary, seeking her intercession. On March 3, 1884, the Virgin Mary appeared to Fortuna, holding a Rosary in her hand. The novena that followed became one of the most beloved forms of Marian prayer in the Church.
Mary's intercession serves as a bridge between the faithful and God — illuminating the path, fostering a deeper faith, and cultivating a sense of hope and assurance in the promise of eternal life. Through novenas and personal prayer, believers can experience her motherly love and a more profound understanding of their relationship with the divine.
